Three group-meal formats: browse food trucks or a market, book a restaurant meal together, or arrange delivery to an approved venue.

Give this weekend one good destination and enough room to enjoy it. Oviedo brings together a Saturday Hispanic-heritage festival, a collection of small restaurants where friends can follow different appetites, and a nursery visit with pumpkins and butterflies. For Orlando visitors ready to explore beyond the convention district, it is a useful choice for a genuine free afternoon.

Our October 16 guide starts with the occasion: music and food at ¡Viva Oviedo!, a casual meal at The Food Factory, or a slower family outing at Lukas Nursery. There are also options for bringing people together over catering. Choose the part that appeals most, then make the meal support the day.

Saturday, October 17: make the festival the occasion

¡Viva Oviedo! Festival takes place Saturday, October 17, from noon–9 p.m., Eastern Time, at Center Lake Park. The city’s event listing gives the address as 357 Center Lake Lane and confirms free general admission. Latin food trucks, cultural dance, local vendors and music headlined by José Alberto “El Canario” make it a strong choice when the group wants a lively shared experience.

Plan to eat with the festival vendors or enjoy a restaurant meal separately. The organizer’s visitor FAQ prohibits outside food, coolers, backpacks, glass containers, beach umbrellas and alcohol. General seating is not provided; guests may bring chairs or blankets for the designated area, with space available first come, first served. Pets are not permitted inside the amphitheater area, apart from service animals.

We’d agree on a meeting point before anyone joins a food line. Let people browse at their own pace, then regroup for music. A free-admission event still needs a food budget and an arrival plan, especially if some guests will stay all evening while others prefer a shorter visit.

The Food Factory: let different appetites share a destination

The Food Factory, at 888 City Walk Lane, combines micro-restaurants with covered outdoor and open-air courtyard seating. Current choices include Buttercrust Pizza, Little Greek Fresh Grill, Tacos My Guey, Kai Asian Street Fare, Cafe Bueno and Grilled Cheezus. That mix makes it appealing for friends who want to meet without spending the whole group chat agreeing on one cuisine.

Treat this as a relaxed meal with separate orders. One person can choose pizza, another can look for Greek food, and someone else can finish with coffee or a waffle. Pick the restaurant you most want to try before setting the arrival time; each kitchen has its own schedule, and the overall property’s opening hours do not establish when every counter serves food.

The Food Factory is in Oviedo on the Park, so it works as a separate meal around a neighborhood outing. Saturday’s festival gives the area another reason to visit, but do not assume ordinary parking or seating will be effortless during a special event. Keep the group flexible and leave enough time to enjoy the food rather than racing to the next stop.

Kai: a noodle-and-wings stop, with catering worth planning ahead

Kai Asian Street Fare’s Oviedo location publishes Friday and Saturday hours of 11:30 a.m.–10 p.m., and Sunday hours of 11:30 a.m.–9 p.m., Eastern Time. Its Food Factory page highlights Korean-style fried chicken and noodle dishes. We’d put it on the shortlist for a substantial lunch before an afternoon outdoors, or a meal with friends who want to share a few dishes.

For a gathering at home or in an approved meeting room, Kai’s catering page sets a $100 minimum for delivery and requests at least 24 hours’ advance scheduling. It also says catering includes disposable plates, utensils, napkins and serving utensils. Confirm the serving kitchen, delivery area and current menu when discussing an order; the catering information covers the restaurant business rather than guaranteeing a particular Oviedo delivery.

That advance notice matters this weekend. A Saturday meal needs an earlier conversation than a casual walk-up lunch. For guests with allergies, speak with the restaurant about preparation and cross-contact before choosing shared dishes; Kai expressly says its facilities are not allergen-free.

Little Greek: a straightforward lunch before more exploring

Little Greek Fresh Grill offers another useful direction within The Food Factory: chicken and steak souvlaki, gyros, falafel, spanakopita, pitas and Greek salads. The menu gives guests a choice between a handheld meal and a plate to sit down over. For a mixed group, that is a practical way to accommodate different appetites without arranging a formal lunch.

We’d choose this stop when the outing already has a main attraction and everyone simply needs a satisfying break. Order the meal that suits the next part of the day, whether that means a quick pita before returning to the festival or a more leisurely lunch after the nursery. Keep a little time to sit together; otherwise a group meal can turn into several people eating in separate queues.

If one guest has a specific dietary requirement, confirm the actual ingredients with the restaurant. A menu containing vegetables or falafel does not by itself settle questions about sauces, preparation or allergens.

October 17–18: a hands-on fall outing at Lukas Nursery

Lukas Nursery’s Paint a Pumpkin & Pumpkin Patch runs Saturday and Sunday, October 17–18, from 10 a.m.–4 p.m., Eastern Time, at 1909 Slavia Road in Oviedo. The nursery invites visitors to choose pumpkins, paint and enjoy seasonal food, with costumes welcome. It gives families something to do together rather than only a backdrop for photographs.

The nursery’s linked organizer listing lists free admission and parking, with pumpkin painting paid separately on site. The painting price was not published in the information checked for this guide. Plan for that activity cost; a free event registration does not include the separate Butterfly Encounter.

Sunday is a useful choice if Saturday is already reserved for the festival. Make the nursery the main outing, then decide whether the group wants lunch out or a meal back at home. Carrying a finished pumpkin is also a good reason to keep the rest of the itinerary simple.

Add the Butterfly Encounter if the group wants more nature

The Butterfly Encounter at Lukas Nursery is a year-round butterfly and bird conservatory, with finches and button quail as well as butterflies. Published hours are 9 a.m.–4 p.m. daily, with last admission at 3:30 p.m., Eastern Time. Admission is listed at $8.95, with children age three and younger admitted free.

Treat the conservatory as its own paid visit alongside the pumpkin activity. If both appeal, leave time for the encounter before the last-admission cutoff instead of assuming the nursery’s later retail closing applies. The nursery also notes that it may close unexpectedly for severe or inclement weather.

October falls outside the encounter’s stated April–September peak butterfly season. That is useful context for expectations: enjoy the conservatory and its different inhabitants without building the day around a particular number of active butterflies. We’d keep this part of the visit unhurried, especially for a group whose interests range from plants to birds to the seasonal activities outside.

Hosting a group? Decide whether you need a reserved gathering

For a birthday, reunion or business get-together that needs more certainty than casual dining, The Food Factory accepts event inquiries and describes indoor and outdoor seating options. Start with the occasion and approximate headcount, then ask which space and food arrangements fit. That gives the venue a useful brief without making the host assemble every detail alone.

A shared destination and a hosted event solve different needs. Friends meeting informally can enjoy choosing their own meals. A host welcoming guests who do not know one another may want an agreed gathering area and a clearer meal time. If remarks or a presentation matter, discuss how those would work in the proposed space before inviting people.

For catering somewhere else, begin with the room’s food rules and the style of meal you want. A few well-chosen dishes with clear serving arrangements can be more welcoming than a complicated spread. Keep the receiving contact and entrance settled so guests are greeted by their host when the food arrives.

Four meal and event-delivery checks: correct location, approved access, named recipient and agreed pickup and arrival timing.

For convention visitors, give Oviedo a proper break in the schedule

Oviedo is an outing to enjoy when the team has time away from the convention district. We would save the festival or nursery visit for a free afternoon, a companion’s daytime plans or an extended stay. A short lunch break between booth commitments is better spent near the people who need to return to work.

For food on the Orange County Convention Center campus, OCCC’s Sodexo Live! resources include exhibitor catering information and an online ordering link. Retail food operations accept credit cards or approved vouchers rather than cash. Use the arrangements for your particular event to establish the available choices and approved receiving points.

Separate the social headcount from the workday meal count. Some colleagues may want a local evening out while others need to pack, rest or prepare for the next day. Making the outing optional keeps it welcoming, and gives the restaurant or caterer a more accurate number. Outside catering availability does not itself establish permission to bring food onto the convention floor.
